Psalm 127:3-5 Calligraphy Art

It is very clear that humans do not come only from our own will and actions. Let me explain.

I have 3 kids. If kids came only from a pure biological act of sex, we'd have a lot more than 3 kids! But that's not how it works.

God is in control of a life being born, who it is, and when! When my wife and I have intentionally tried to get pregnant, we haven't been able to. Yet God, in his sovereignty, gave us children when He willed it.

In fact, we jokingly refer to one of our kids as our miraculous conception baby, as it was not expected.

Heck, one of my friends from high school got a vasectomy in order to not have kids, and his wife still got pregnant! God willed them to have a son!

I love the imagery in this Psalm, of children born to a young man being like arrows in a warrior's hands. Arrows are not to keep, but are meant for aiming with precision, and shooting out. This reminds me of Proverbs 22:6 - "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."

And while we no longer have "city gates" where people gather in the same way that the ancient Hebrews did, we do have neighborhoods, parks, workplaces, and other places of gathering. A responsible and God fearing Father who raises up his children in God's ways cannot be put to shame by any accuser. Praise the Lord.
