This Bible verse calligraphy art print captures what Jesus spoke about being blessed, as written in Matthew 5 verses 3 to 12. I wrote this one in red ink to represent the blood of Jesus.
How many times do we hear people say how blessed they are, usually because of something material that they have, or even because of their family? I know I do this.
But in this verse, Jesus doesn't mention those things. He says blessed are those who are poor in spirit, who mourn, who are meek, who hunger and thirst for righteousness, who are merciful, pure in heart, and are peacemakers! Being a peacemaker means you are not always operating in peaceful environments, but in the muckiness of real life! Do you say how blessed you are when you're trying to stop a fight, or trying to make peace with someone you've had difficulty with?
And then the hard parts of being blessed - "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me." Ah! This is not what I typically think of when thinking about being blessed, but is a great reminder of how Jesus views being blessed. There are many examples of this in the book of Acts.
